A home in Stone Mountain, GA was the site of a tragic accident on Saturday after the deck of the house collapsed causing injuries to 10 people. According to a CBS local news report, guests had gathered to celebrate a birthday when the deck collapsed.
The accident happened at a home located at 5344 Bridgewater Terrace in Stone Mountain, GA to celebrate the birthday of the home’s tenants. Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise and seeing the deck partially collapse. Emergency crews took 10 people to area hospitals to be treated for injuries.
As the deck collapsed, several people sustained burn injuries after a grill on the deck toppled over. Others suffered less serious injuries such as cuts. Three additional people involved in the collapse refused treatment.
Dekalb County Firefighter Capt. Eric Jackson said that poor construction is likely to blame for the accident. The home is a rental home, and one witness told reporters the deck had already been built when the tenant moved in.
