Husband Dead, Wife Injured in Corpus Christi Hit-and-Run

A man is dead and his wife is in critical condition as a result of a hit-and-run crash in Corpus Christi Friday evening.

KRIS-TV reports that Ray Lopez was pushing his wheelchair-bound wife north along 25th street when the two were struck by a drunk driver. The driver did not stop following the accident.

Though no one witnessed the accident, police did receive a report of a gold pickup driving erratically following the incident.

Officers arrived to the scene to find Mr. Lopez and his wife lying in the street. The two injured pedestrians were rushed to Spohn Memorial Hospital where Mr. Lopez was pronounced dead.

CCPD Arrests Hit-and-Run Driver

According to Sergeant Mark Herrod of the Corpus Christi Police Department, the suspect’s vehicle, a gold 1999 Ford F-150, was found at an apartment complex “right around the corner” from the accident.

Police stated that there was damage to the vehicle consistent with the impact, and that evidence found at the scene was linked to the vehicle.

Authorities arrested 30-year-old Christine Griffin in connection with with the accident. She has been charged with intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault, and leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.
