Motorcyclist Fatally Run Over by 18-Wheeler in San Antonio

A motorcyclist, identified to the public only as a 44-year-old man, was run over and killed by an 18-wheeler when he fell off of his motorcycle in San Antonio, Texas.  The victim hit a barrier on Loop 410 to Highway 151, which caused him to fall into the path of the oncoming truck.

Details of the Motorcycle Accident

According to KSAT 12 News, the accident occurred on Friday afternoon in the Far West Side of San Antonio, Texas.

The victim was attempting to get on Highway 515 when he hit a barrier that had been set up for construction. The motorcyclist fell from his Harley Davidson into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer that, according to San Antonio police department, had no time to stop.

The accident is still under investigation; it is not yet known whether any charges will be filed against the driver of the 18-wheeler. Officer Jesus Reyes, from the San Antonio PD, has stated that the truck driver waited at the scene for police to arrive.

The victim, who had been wearing a helmet, died at the scene.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 459 motorcyclists were killed in Texas in 2015, which is four fewer fatalities than 2014.
  • 52% of motorcycle deaths in 2015 were not wearing a helmet.
  • In 2015, the fatality rate in Texas was 1.43 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled. The fatality rate has decreased by 2.05% from 2014.
