Nestle Canada has issued a nationwide recall of Good Start 2 baby formula because infants consuming the product may not receive essential nutrients due to a manufacturing issue.
According to the Food Safety News, there have been some illnesses reported in infants who consumed the formula from the four recalled batches. It is unconfirmed whether those illnesses were caused by the Good Start 2 formula.
However, reports indicate consumption fo the recalled product can lead to lower intake of essential nutrients due to reduced bioavailability (the measure of well the body can absorb the components in food and medications).
Due to consumer complaints of the infant formula, Nestle Canada issued the recall since the product was distributed to retailers nationwide.
The recalled batches carry the brand and product name Good Start 2 and Iron Fortified Milk-based Infant Formula. They are packaged in 359 mL tetra boxed. The recalled batches have the following codes and expiration dates:
The formula is packaged in 12 box cases with the UPC number 0 65000 49277 4. The individual tetra boxed have the UPC number 0 65000 49285 9.
