New Information Released in Fatal Katy Crash
Authorities have released new information concerning a fatal accident that resulted in the death of 22-year-old Janeth Mireles last Friday.
Details of the Fatal Katy Accident
The Houston Chronicle reports that Mireles was fatally injured when her vehicle was struck by a Chevy Silverado. It appears that the pickup ran a red light at the intersection of Saums Road and Greenhouse Road in Katy, Texas, causing the collision.
Mireles’ boss told reporters that Mireles had just attended the grand opening of a Houston-based real estate company. She was on her way home around 2 am when the accident occurred.
The accident remains under investigation as authorities await the results of a toxicology report for the driver of the pickup, Richard Cooper.
Cooper and his passenger both sustained injuries in the accident and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):
- In 2013, 3,377 people were killed in auto accidents across Texas. This marked a 1.05-percent decrease from the 3,413 fatalities reported in 2012.
- 767 of those deaths were attributed to collisions that occurred at or in relation to intersections, and alcohol was determined to be a factor in 1,089 deaths.
- Another 232,041 people were injured in auto accidents with 89,270 people suffering serious injury.
