One Dead in Port Aransas Pedestrian Accident
Port Aransas Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a hit-and-run accident that left one man dead.
About the Port Aransas Hit-and-Run
KRIS-TV reports that the body of Dustin Willis was found in the brush along the side of Highway 361 Monday morning.
Authorities believe Willis was fatally struck sometime overnight – Willis’ body was found by a passerby who then contacted police.
Using evidence collected at the scene, police determined that Willis was likely struck by a Ford F-150 King Ranch Edition. Anybody with information about the accident is urged to contact the Port Aransas Police Department at 361-749-6241.
Texas Auto Accident Statistics
The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):
- 3,377 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2013. This marked a 1.05 percent decrease from the 3,413 deaths reported by TxDOT in 2012.
- Pedestrian fatalities accounted for 485 deaths in 2013, and bicycle accidents resulted in 48 deaths.
- 232,041 additional people were injured in auto accidents in 2013 with 89,270 people sustaining serious injuries.
