One Dead in San Antonio Motorcycle Accident

A 25-year-old man died Friday evening when he was speeding on his motorcycle and slammed into a car.

Details of the Fatal San Antonio Motorcycle Accident

Around 7:40 on June 5, San Antonio police and firefighters responded to a call in the 1500 block of SW Military Drive at Escalon.

Witnesses told KENS that they saw a man driving a car in the westbound lane to take a left onto Escalon when the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed, colliding with the car.

The collision “went up in a puff of smoke” according to other witnesses.  Officials on the scene said that the motorcycle slid about 300 years after the impact.

A family member, who did not want to be identified, told KENS 5 that the victim had just turned 25 on June 3.  According to the SAPD, the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

  • 3,408 people were killed in traffic collisions in Texas in 2013.
  • Motorcyclists accounted for 503 of those deaths. 53 percent of those killed were not wearing helmets at the time of collision.
  • 777 deaths were attributed to accidents that occurred at or in relation to an intersection.
  • 232,599 people were injured in auto accidents in 2013.
