One Road Worker Dead, Another Injured in Michigan Accident

A road worker was killed when a semi-trailer barreled off the roadway and drove straight into a work site.

9 and 10 News is reporting that a road worker has been killed by a semi-truck when the truck barreled off the road in Northern Michigan into the work site.

According to investigators, who are still piecing together the circumstances of the accident, the crash seeming happened on Monday afternoon at around 5 p.m. on the off ramp to US 131 to M-115 in Wexford County’s Clam Lake Township.

Deputies say that the driver of the truck hit two road sign maintenance trucks, which then hit two workers.

One of the workers was taken to the hospital in Cadillac and then airlifted to Grand Rapids. The other worker, Sean Jordan of Holly was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the truck, 42-year-old Scott McCant of Grand Rapids was behind the wheel of the truck at the time of the accident. He was arrested and then charged with reckless driving causing death.

  • In 2014, there were a total of 409 total crashes involving trucks or buses at construction sites.
  • Of those 409 crashes, only three of them proved to have been fatal accidents.
  • Another 56 of those accidents involved only injuries to one or more of the parties involved.
