2.9 Million Toyota Vehicles Recalled for Airbag Defect

According to CBS News, Toyota is recalling almost 2.9 million vehicles for a defect that affects airbags and seatbelts. The defect can result in an increased risk of injury or death in a collision.

About the Toyota Vehicles Recall

The issue affects the electronic control units responsible for deploying airbags and for restraining seatbelts in the event of a crash. According to Toyota, these units may not provide enough protection against “electrical noise that can occur in certain crashes.”

Several automakers and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have been looking into the issue since April of last year.

Vehicle Versions Affected by Recall

The recall covers the following versions:

  • 2011-2019 Corolla
  • 2011-2013 Matrix
  • 2012-2018 Avalon
  • 2013-2018 Avalon Hybrid

If Your Vehicle is Affected

Anyone with a vehicle affected by this recall will be notified by mail by mid-March. To fix the issue, most dealers will install a noise filter at no cost.

To check whether your vehicle is at risk, visit Toyota’s website or the NHTSA website and enter your Vehicle Identification Number and license plate number into the search.
