School Buses Involved in Crash in Indianapolis

According to WRTV, one school bus rear-ended another as both were on their way to Lawence North High School early Friday morning. 25 students and two bus drivers were taken to nearby hospitals; there were no fatalities.

About the School Bus Crash

The crash occurred just before 8am on the overpass before the intersection of Fall Creek Road and Shadeland Avenue.

One bus rear-ended the other; the two buses were the only vehicles involved in the accident.

Six students, ages 14-17, were taken to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital for injuries that were classified as non-life threatening. Six other students were treated at Eskenazi, three were treated at Methodist, and many were treatable on scene.

  • 1,344 people were killed from 2004-2013 in school transportation related crashes, an average of 134 fatalities per year. 327 of those 1,344 fatalities were school age children.
  • From 2004-2013 there were almost three times more fatalities among occupants of other vehicles than occupants of school transportation vehicles.
