Semi-Truck Driver Strikes, Kills Woman in Hit-and-run Crash
According to the Northwest Indiana Times, a woman was fatally injured after being struck by a semi-truck in a hit-and-run incident in South Holland, Illinois, on Monday morning.
About the Fatal Semi Crash
The fatal truck crash occurred on Interstate 94 a few miles north of 159th Street at around 4:25 a.m. local time. Kristi L. Swopes, 38, was driving southbound on Interstate 94 when she crashed into another car while attempting to change lanes, causing her to strike a concrete median and come to rest in the left lane. She was then hit by another car traveling on the interstate.
Swopes was standing outside of her vehicle in a lane of traffic when she was hit by a tractor-trailer, reports the Northwest Indiana Times. Witnesses to the crash said that the driver of the semi stopped briefly before driving away from the crash scene.
According to the Northwest Indiana Times, Swopes died at the scene of the crash. Illinois State Police say one of the other motorists was hospitalized with minor injuries.
