Teen Faces Felony Charge in Austin Crash that Killed 7-Year-Old Pedestrian

A teenager has been charged with a second-degree felony following a two-vehicle crash that killed a 7-year-old girl that was walking in a North Austin neighborhood.

Details of the Fatal Austin Pedestrian Accident

According to CBS Austin, the crash occurred at the intersection of North Meadows Drive and Newmont Drive, southwest of Kramer Lane and Lamar Boulevard.

Austin Police received a 911 call reporting the pedestrian accident in Austin, TX at around 4:25 pm.

The collision initially involved an SUV and a sedan, but the SUV continued to move after the initial collision and struck two trucks parked near a duplex. 7-year-old Maria Monserrat Dubon-Nava was walking between the two trucks when they were struck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of the Sedan and the SUV involved in the initial collision fled the scene. The driver of the SUV, Miguel Diaz, 17, did return, however, and was charged with Accident Involving Injury – a second-degree felony.

The crash remains under investigation.
