Two Killed in Collision Between Dump Truck and Bus in Port Arthur

Two people were killed in a crash involving a dump truck and a bus in Port Arthur, Texas on Monday evening.

Details of the Port Arthur Truck Accident

According to CBS Austin, the collision occurred when a dump truck and a Hotard bus crashed on Highway 82 near Walter Umphrey State Park.

A witness at the scene said police had told him the bus was returning from Southwest Louisiana after taking workers to a plant. The two-vehicle collided head-on.

Highway 82 was closed at the Causeway Bridge from Walter Umphrey State Park to South Levee Road until 6 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.

Of those killed, 71 percent were occupants of passenger vehicles, 18 percent were occupants of large trucks and 18-wheelers, 11 percent were pedestrians and bicyclists.

More than three-quarters of fatal 19-wheeler accidents occurred on weekdays.

Texas led the country in trucking accident deaths with 664 fatalities recorded. Texas was followed by California with 352 deaths and Florida with 321 deaths.

Another 151,000 people were injured in 18-wheeler and truck accidents in 2018.
