Two People on Motorcycle Die in Crash with Minivan
According to NBC4i, two people on a motorcycle died after striking a minivan on Harrisburg-Georgesville Road in Grove City, Ohio.
Crash Remains Under Investigation
The motorcycle carrying two people was traveling north on Harrisburg-Georgesville Road, south of Opossum Run, when it crossed over the center line.
According to NBC4i, the motorcycle crashed into another vehicle heading southbound. Both occupants of the motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Neither motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet, reports NBC4i. Currently it is unclear if alcohol or drugs played a role in the fatal crash. The crash occurred around 8:14 p.m. local time.
Motorcycle Crash Statistics
The following information is provided by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
- A total of 4,295 motorcyclists died in crashes in 2014.
- Motorcycle deaths accounted for 13 percent of all motor vehicle crash deaths in 2014.
- 36 percent of fatally injured motorcyclists were age 50 or older.
- Ninety-two percent of motorcyclists killed in 2014 were males.
