Whirlpool Recalls Microwaves Due to Fire Hazard
Whirlpool Corp. is recalling 15,200 microwaves after several incidents in which microwave ovens caught on fire during use.
About the Whirlpool Microwave Recall
According to MLive, the recall is due to a plastic component inside the microwave that has the potential to catch fire. Whirlpool has received five reports of such incidents, including one home fire, two fires involving the surrounding cabinets, one report of smoke and one report of a burning odor.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises consumers to stop using the recalled microwaves immediately and to unplug the units. Consumers can contact Whirlpool for a replacement microwave. No injuries have been associated with the recalled microwaves.
