Woman Charged with Intoxication Manslaughter Sees Bail Increase
An Austin, Texas woman, who is accused of two counts of intoxication manslaughter for a fatal November 2011 accident, which killed a pastor and his wife, continues to have issues sticking to the conditions of her bail.
About the Austin DWI Accident
- According to the Statesman, Terri Munoz Elmore, a 42 year-old former paramedic, has been arrested for a second time for consuming alcohol, a violation of her “supervised release.”
- Elmore is standing trial for two counts of intoxication manslaughter when she hit and killed a local pastor, Ernest Boyett, and his wife, Barbara Boyett, during a head-on collision in November 2011.
- The November crash happened on the 10000 block of U.S. Highway 290 when Elmore’s vehicle crossed the center lane and hit the Boyetts head on. Her blood alcohol level was .20.
- She appeared in court Tuesday for violating her bail conditions. Her bail was doubled to $50,000 and her licensed suspended until her trial begins at the end of October.
Austin Woman Bail Increases Awaits Trial for DWI Accident
- Church supporters fear that the woman will partake in a plea deal, which they feel will not do justice as Travis county is seen as “permissive toward drunk drivers.”
- Elmore failed the ignition interlock device in her car six times since the device was installed in her car March, 2012. On four occasions she registered a blood alcohol content level above the devices maximum .3 reading.
- In Texas, state penal code says that an intoxication manslaughter conviction can bring a prison sentence of 2 to 20 years and/or a fine of less than $10,000.
