Worker Injured at Corpus Christi Citgo Plant
A worker has been hospitalized following an accident at the Citgo Refinery West Plant in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Details of the Citco Refinery Accident
According to KRIS-TV, the man sustained a head injury after he slipped and fell while reaching for a piece of equipment.
Responders arrived to the scene around 2:00 am Friday where they found the man conscious and standing. Nonetheless, the man was transported to an area hospital.
The worker has not been identified and Citgo has not commented on the incident.
On the Job Injury Statistics
The following information was provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):
- 4,405 on the job fatalities were recorded in 2013 – this averages to 85 deaths a week or more than 12 deaths a day.
- 3,929 of these deaths occurred in the private industry with 796 deaths being linked to construction.
- Among the most common causes of work-related injuries are:
- Falls
- Electrocutions
- Struck by object
- Caught-in/between
