Worker Killed in Darien Construction Accident
A 40-year-old construction worker was fatally injured Friday after being involved in an on the job accident.
Details of the Fatal Accident
According to the Democrat and Chronicle, Aaron L. Wellman was attempting to drive a pavement roller onto a flatbed trailer when the pavement roller fell from the trailer and overturned.
Officials responded to the scene shortly after 5:30 am and found Wellman unresponsive. Wellman was rushed to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The incident remains under investigation
Construction Accident Statistics
The following information was provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):
- 4,821 on the job deaths were recorded in 2014, averaging to more than 13 deaths per day
- 4,386 of the recorded fatalities occurred in private industry and 899 were attributed to construction incidents.
- Among the leading causes of death at construction sites are:
- Falls
- Electrocutions
- Struck by object
- Caught-in/between
