18-Year-Old Dies After Being Struck While Assisting at Fort Worth Crash

An 18-year-old was struck and killed early Friday morning while he and a group of friends were attempting to help at the scene of a crash.

Details of the Fatal Fort Worth Crash

According to NBC 5 DFW, Habib Dwabe, 18, and a group of friends stopped at the scene of a crash in the 4200 block of South Freeway at around 2:30 am Friday. As the group was attempting to render aid, a vehicle slammed into the crash site, striking the already-crashed vehicle and Dwabe.

The impact of the collision sent Dwabe over the median into oncoming traffic, where he was struck by another vehicle. His friends attempted to move Dwabe to safety, but he died at the scene.

The driver who struck Dwabe, 27-year-old Sergio Escorza, was arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter.

Friends of Dwabe were not surprised by the young man’s actions. Pablo Perales, who was at the scene with Dwabe, described him as “a very kind person, very loving person, very joyful person. He was one of a kind, actually.”

Dwabe was previously featured on NBC 5 DFW at the age of 9 when he was growing out his hair for a donation to a company that makes wigs for cancer patients.
