2 Dead in Williamson County Motorcycle Accident
Two people have died as a result of a motorcycle accident that occurred in Williamson County Sunday night.
Details of the Fatal Motorcycle Accident
According to KVUE, the accident occurred on FM 2243 around 11 pm when a Land Rover pulled out in front of a motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the driver side of the SUV.
Both the operator of the motorcycle and the passenger were thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as Sebastian Sample, 24, and Kaylee Caroline Platz-Panico, 22.
Preliminary reports indicate the driver of the Land Rover saw the motorcycle, but misjudged the distance between the motorcycle and his vehicle.
Texas Traffic Accident Statistics
The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):
- 3,534 traffic-related deaths were recorded in Texas in 2014, marking a 3.7-percent increase over the 3,408 deaths reported in 2013.
- 1,974 of the deaths recorded in 2014 were attributed to collisions that occurred in rural areas of the state.
- Motorcycle accidents resulted in 463 deaths in 2014.
- Fifty percent of those killed in motorcycle accidents were not wearing helmets.
