Country Fresh Recalls Products Due to Possible Health Risk
Texas-based Country Fresh, LLC, is recalling thousands of fresh-cut vegetable products across nine states due to a potential Listeria contamination.
About the Country Fresh Vegetable Recall
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Country Fresh, LLC, is recalling 30,000 cases of various fresh-cut vegetable products due to a potential contamination. The contamination was uncovered during a routine test taken at a retail store by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
The recalled product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterial organism that can cause serious infections in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems.
Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled vegetable products are asked to return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Consumers should not consume these products due to the risk of infection.
Description of the Recalled Country Fresh Vegetable Products
The recalled vegetable products were shipped to retailers spanning several states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Products are wrapped in a clear plastic container or in Styrofoam trays wrapped with clear plastic film under the Country Fresh or store brand labels.

Information on Listeria Infections
According to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Listeria is a bacteria found in soil, water, and some animals, such as poultry and cattle. Listeria can be found in a variety of food sources, including raw milk, soft cheeses, deli meats and hotdogs, or raw vegetables. Listeria can live in food processing plants where it can contaminate a variety of processed foods.
Symptoms of a Listeria infection, or listeriosis, include:
- Fever
- Muscle aches
- Diarrhea
- Other gastrointestinal symptoms
If you experience any of these symptoms after eating a recalled product, seek medical care immediately.
