Cyclist Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver


According to KSAT, Christopher Cortez, 24, was on his bicycle on the Loop 1604 access road when he was struck and killed by a driver who did not stop to help.
Police still Searching for Driver
Cortez was transported to the hospital with critical injuries, but he later passed. KSAT reports that Cortez was not wearing a helmet during the hit-and-run incident.
Police are still in search of the driver who left Cortez dead. Police say the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near Braun Road, reports KSAT.
Pedalcyclist Traffic Crash Statistics
The following information is provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):
- Most fatal crashes involving pedalcyclists occurred at non-intersections (57%) in 2013.
- Over half (56%) of fatal crashes involving pedalcyclists occurred from 3:00 p.m. to 11:50 p.m. in 2013.
- The fewest pedalcyclist fatalities occurred from midnight to 5:59 a.m. (10%) in 2013.
- In 2013, pedalcyclist fatalities were highest in California (141), Florida (133), and Texas (48).
