The fatal crash occurred on Madison Avenue east of Van Horn Street at around 8:00 p.m. local time. A male pedestrian was walking his dog on the side of the street, where there were no sidewalks, when he was struck by a car. A local firefighter saw the accident occur and tended to the hurt pedestrian while his son called emergency crews.
The man sustained severe head injuries and was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment. Unfortunately, the pedestrian would later succumb to his injuries. The Daily Voice reports that the Toyota Prius drove off following the collision, but his vehicle was located on Thursday.
The driver, 54-year-old Cheewah Wong, was arrested and placed in jail on charges including leaving the scene of a fatal crash, reports the Daily Voice. Wong is being held on $250,000 bond at Bergen County Jail.
