Driver Killed in Crash on Highway 285
One driver was killed and another is in critical condition following a crash on Highway 285.
About the Fatal Accident
The fatal collision occurred along State Highway 285, just eight miles west of Riviera, before 10 a.m. Monday.
The driver of a silver Ford Focus was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was flown to a Corpus Christi and is in critical but stable condition.
The accident remains under investigation.
Texas Crash Statistics
- The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) recorded 3,534 traffic deaths in 2014 – a 3.7 percent increase from the 3,408 deaths recorded in 2013.
- Of the deaths recorded in 2014, 1,974 occurred in rural areas.
- An additional 237,941 people were injured in auto accidents with 17,152 people suffering serious injuries.
- A reportable crash is estimated to have occurred every 66 seconds in 2014.
