Electric Shock Risk: Major Recall of Over 211,000 Char-Broil Smokers
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of over 211,000 Char-Broil digital electric smokers due to a potential risk of electric shock. These smokers can leak electrical current during use, posing a serious safety hazard.
Recall Details
- The recalled smokers can leak electrical current, posing a risk of electric shock to users.
- Char-Broil has received 79 reports of consumers experiencing minor electric shocks, including one report of a finger blister.
Which models are affected?
- This recall involves over 18 different Char-Broil digital electric smoker models, including models with and without windows, black and stainless-steel finishes, and “Medallion” or “Connected” variations.
- You can find the model and serial number on the product label located on the outside back of the unit.
Where were they sold?
- The recalled smokers were sold at Lowe’s, Menards, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, Target, and other stores nationwide.
- They were also sold online at Amazon.com, HSN.com, and Charbroil.com from April 2015 through January 2024 for between $300 and $600.
What should you do?
- Stop using the recalled smoker immediately. It’s important to act fast to avoid potential injuries.
- Contact Char-Broil for a free repair kit. The kit includes a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) plug to help prevent shock hazards.
