GE Recalls Washers Due to Fire Hazard
GE is issuing a recall on approximately 222,000 of their GE Profile, high-efficiency top-loading clothes washers due to a fire hazard.
About the GE Clothes Washer Recall
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recall affects three models of the GE Profile clothes washers. GE Appliances have received 71 reports of internal components burning or catching fire. In three reports, the fire resulted in about $129,000 in property damage.
No injuries have been reported.
Consumers are advised to immediately unplug and stop using the recalled washers. GE will provide consumers with a free repair if contacted.
Description of the Recalled Clothes Washers
The GE Profile clothes washers come in gold, gray, and white. “GE Profile” is printed on the front of the washers, and the model number is located on the rear cover of the washer.
Only GE Profile washers with the following model numbers are included in the recall:
- WPGT9350
- WPGT9360
- WPGT9150
All serial numbers are included in the recall.
The washers were sold at Best Buy, Lowes, Sears, The Home Depot, and other stores nationwide between June 2003 and October 2011.
