Longview Man Killed in 3-Vehicle Crash Involving Log Truck

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a three-vehicle crash that killed one near Groveton. Police say the crash involved two passenger vehicles and a tractor-trailer hauling logs.

Details of the Fatal Longview Truck Accident

According to KLTV, the fatal crash occurred on State Highway 94 about one mile north of Farm-to-Market Road 3317 at around 6:05 am.

Early reports say a 1989 Mack truck failed to yield right of way as it pulled out of a private drive onto eastbound SH 94. It was struck by a 1995 Chevrolet pickup and a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup traveling westbound on the highway.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 47-year-old Vernon Groze, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge, 38-year-old Bradley McMullen, was transported to Crocket Medical Center.

The driver of the Mack, 54-year-old Richard Ellis, was not injured.

The truck accident remains under investigation.

Texas has remained the state with the most recorded truck accident deaths for years and recorded 649 truck accident fatalities in 2017. California was a distant second with 361 deaths.
