Fieldbrook Foods Corporation has issued a recall for all orange cream bars and chocolate coated vanilla ice cream bars produced at its Dunkirk, New York plant in 2017 due to potential listeria contamination. Te recall affects multiple large brands including Kroger, Frys, and Sundae Shoppe.
According to the FDA, the recalled products have a production date between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017 and a “best by” date between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. However, some products, specifically those under the brand name Hood and Kemps, may show a “best by” date of July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Infection in pregnant women may result in stillbirth and miscarriage.
Healthy individuals may experience headache, fever, stiffness, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
The potential for contamination was determined after routine testing revealed the presence of Lysteria monocytogenes in ice cream bar samples.
