A 19-year-old is facing murder charges for a fatal crash that left one person dead in Northeast Bexar County early Sunday morning.
According to KSAT, Esteban Zamarripa, III, was driving recklessly in the 7400 block of Tarrasa Drive when he caught the attention of a Bexar County Sheriff’s deputy. The deputy attempted to pull over Zamarripa, but he refused to stop.
Zamarripa struck several curbs and passed through traffic lights before driving in the wrong direction all in attempts to evade the deputy. He then crashed into a semi and a Toyota Camry.
The drier of the Camry died at the scene.
Zamarripa was taken into custody and has been charged with murder and evading vehicle charges.
San Antonio continues to rank as one of the worst cities in Texas when it comes to drunk driving with a drunk driving death rate of 5.15 per 100,000 residents.
Every year, the city sees over 2,300 drunk driving crashes resulting in 75 deaths and more than 110 serious injuries.
