More than 2 Million 4moms Baby Swings Recalled; 1 Death Reported

Over 2 million 4moms baby swings have been recalled by Thorley Industries LLC for possible entanglement and strangulation hazards. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) states one death and one injury have been reported.

About the 4moms Baby Swing Recall

According to the CPSC, the recall encompasses more than 2 million MamaRoo swings and 220,000 RockaRoo rockers sold in the United States. It also covers, 60,000 MamaRoo and 10,000 RockaRoo products sold in Canada.

When the swings and rockers are not in use, their restraint straps can hang below the seat. The CPSC notes that non-occupant infants can crawl underneath the swings and rockers and become entangled in the straps, creating entanglement and strangulation hazards.

So far, 4moms has received two incident reports involving entanglement and strangulation. In one incident, a 10-month-old became caught in the strap and died from asphyxiation. In the second, a 10-month-old suffered bruising to his neck before being freed by a caregiver.

Both incidents occurred with the MamaRoo swings. No incidents have been confirmed with the RockaRoo rockers.

Consumers with crawling infants should stop using the recalled swings and rockers immediately. The rockers should be placed in an area inaccessible to infants.

Consumers can contact 4moms to register for a free strap fastener that will prevent the straps from extending under the swing when not in use.
