One Dead, Two Injured in Austin Multi-Vehicle Accident

One person is dead and two others have been hospitalized following a multi-vehicle accident in northwest Austin on Tuesday night.

Details of the Fatal Austin Crash

According to KXAN, the fatal crash occurred at the intersection of McNeil Drive and San Felipe Boulevard around 9:22 pm.

Responding medics pronounced one person dead at the scene. Two others were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Details on how the crash are scarce, but initial reports suggest the crash was a head-on collision.

The crash remains under investigation. It is unclear if charges will be filed.

According to statistics published by the Boston Globe, wrong-way collisions kill around 360 people annually.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, wrong-way collisions account for just 3 percent of recent years’ crashes on highways; they are, however, much more likely to end in fatalities and critical injuries than any other form of crash.

The fatality rate is between 12-17 percent higher in accidents involving wrong-way collisions than in other types of accidents.
