Teen Killed in Arlington Motorcycle Accident


An Arlington teenager was fatally injured last Thursday as a result of a motorcycle accident.
About the Fatal Motorcycle Crash
According to the Star-Telegram, Armando Chavez, 17, was transported to Medical City Arlington around 6:45 pm after crashing his motorcycle into a mailbox at the 1800 block of Billy B Avenue near Texas 360.
He was pronounced dead at 8:54 pm.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fatal crash; however, they do believe speed was a potential factor. Chavez was only .2 miles from his house when the crash occurred.
Texas Traffic Accident Statistics
The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transpiration:
- 3,531 traffic fatalities were recorded in Texas in 2015. This marks little change from the 3,536 deaths reported in 2014.
- Motorcyclists (operators and passengers) accounted for 459 of the fatalities recorded in 2015.
- Investigators determined 52 percent of motorcyclists killed in traffic crashes in 2015 were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
- An additional 246,335 people were injured in traffic crashes in 2015 with 17,011 people suffering serious injuries.
