Police in Austin are investigating a fatal crash that left two workers dead Friday morning.
CBS Austin reports the crash occurred around 9:29 pm at 4911 South I-35 Service Road in the northbound lanes. Police responded after receiving a 9-1-1 call reporting the crash.
A preliminary investigation suggests the driver of a 2015 Porsche left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck to crew members working on the side of the road. Both victims were men in their 30s. They were installing road signs off the street.
The driver of the Porsche had to be extricated from the vehicle and was declared a “trauma alert.” He was taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police suspect speed to be a factor in the crash. It is unclear if charges will be filed.
