Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash Kills One in Northwest Austin

Austin police are investigating a fatal crash that left a pedestrian dead Tuesday night.

Details of the Fatal Austin Pedestrian Accident

KXAN reports the crash occurred shortly before 9:30 pm Tuesday at 12300 North FM 620, between Lake Creek Parkway and U.S. 183.

While details of the crash were limited, police did disclose that the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving attempts by ATCEMS.

The driver involved did remain at the scene. Police said they have been cooperative with investigators.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) notes that fatal pedestrian crashes are on the rise in Texas. In fact, pedestrian now account of roughly 20% of traffic fatalities.

In 2021, 5,370 crashes involving pedestrians were reported in Texas. These crashes resulted in 843 pedestrian deaths marking a 15% increase in traffic deaths from 2020.

An additional 1,467 people were seriously injured in pedestrian accidents in 2021.

  • Drivers failing to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians

  • Speeding
