Four people were heavily injured after a rollover accident early Thursday morning of last week.
- According to KENS5, the crash happened Thursday morning in San Antonio on Braun Road and Loop 1604 around 1 a.m.
- The driver lost control of the car causing it to roll into the median of 1604 before crashing into a light pole.
- Two women and two men were ejected from the car and taken to a local hospital in critical condition, officials say.
- Police did not say what might have caused the driver to crash. Portions of the highway were briefly closed while authorities investigated.
Driving safely is crucial to preventing accidents and protecting yourself and others on the road. Here are essential practices to ensure safety behind the wheel:
- Keep your phone out of reach: Avoid texting, calling, or engaging in any phone-related distractions while driving. If a call is necessary, use a hands-free device.
- Minimize in-car diversions: Avoid activities that divert your attention from the road, such as eating, adjusting the radio, or reaching for items in the backseat. Adjust mirrors, seats, and climate controls before driving.
- Stay mentally present: Avoid daydreaming or getting lost in thought. Maintain focus on the primary task of driving safely.
Practice Defensive Driving
- Maintain situational awareness: Continuously scan the road ahead and use mirrors to stay aware of surrounding traffic. Be vigilant for potential hazards and prepared to react accordingly.
- Maintain a safe following distance: Ensure a reasonable gap between your vehicle and the one in front of you. Aim for a three-second following distance, increasing it in adverse weather conditions.
- Obey traffic regulations: Respect speed limits, follow traffic signals and signs, and always use turn signals. Avoid aggressive driving behaviors such as tailgating or weaving between lanes.
