6 Students, 2 Drivers Injured in Texas School Bus Accident
Six students and two drivers were injured Thursday morning following a school bus accident near Fort Worth, Texas.
Details of the Texas School Bus Accident
According to KWTX, the crash happens during the bus’s morning route when a car rear-ended the bus. The bus was carrying 40 students bound for Gene Pike Middle School in Justin at the time of the accident.
Authorities said part of the car caught on fire following the crash, but Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze fairly quickly.
The accident remains under investigations.
Bus Accident Statistics
- According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), 3,978 large trucks and buses were involved in fatal accidents in 2014.
- The number of injury crashes involving buses and large trucks increased by 55 percent between 2009 and 2014.
- From 2004 to 2014, intercity bus accidents accounted for 13 percent of all fatal bus crashes. School buses accounted for 41 percent and transit buses accounted for 33 percent.
