About the Adult Tricycle Recall
In the recent voluntary recall, TerraTrike worked with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to discover the torque sensor inside the wheel can activate at random intervals which may cause the vehicle to power forwards, posing the risk of injury.
CPSC urges consumers to immediately stop using the recalled tricycles and return them for a proper speed sensor installation free of charge, and a software update. No injuries regarding the recall have been reported at this time.
Description of Recalled Adult Tricycles
- The recalled TerraTrike Rambler Electrical Vehicle Option ( E.V.O) are recumbent pedal-powered trikes with a motor assist.
- These vehicles have two wheels in the front and one in the back powered by a black hub motor.
- The serial numbers on the products are listed on the company’s website at terratrike.com and can also be found under the main tube on a sticker close to the rear wheel, as well as on the vertical tube of the outrigger.
The products were by authorized TerraTrike dealers, and independent bicycle specialty stores nationwide, as well as online. These trikes were sold from August 2017 through October 1, 2018, for about $3,500.
