Florida Medical Malpractice Lawsuit Overturned
A medical malpractice lawsuit in Florida has been overturned and a new trial is being ordered.
About the Medical Malpractice Lawsuit
According to the Sun Sentinel, Stephanie Hollingsworth has had her $15.5 million dollar lawsuit overturned by the Florida courts. She had sued Dr. Yvonne Sherrer for negligence after his treatment of her necrotizing vasculitis that resulted in her nearly dying of gangrene along with losing some of her toes, fingers and a part of her foot.
Originally the court found Sherrer guilty and awarded Hollingsworth $15.5 million. However, this ruling has been overturned with the claim that the jury had a prejudice against Sterrer. Now they are ordering for another trial.
The hospital where Sherrer practiced, Holy Cross Hospital, was not found guilty of any malpractice.
Medical Malpractice Statistics

There are approximately 250,000 deaths every year from medical errors. However, despite the high amount of deaths caused by medical errors only about 5 percent result in any kind of lawsuit or payout for the harmed.
