Crashes involving multiple vehicles is one of the deadliest forms of traffic collisions. They usually happen when multiple drivers are either distracted or following a car too closely in areas of high traffic volume. If drivers aren’t paying attention, one crash can cause a chain reaction of accidents or pileup collisions.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 43 percent of all car accidents in the United States involve multiple vehicles. In Texas, multi-vehicle crashes accounted for 1,802 crashes—49% of all crashes in 2018.
