2012 Medical Malpractice Case Leads to Family Being Awarded $2.5 Million

A Peoria, Illinois family has been awarded $2.5 million in connection with a medical malpractice lawsuit against OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center.

Jury Delivers Unanimous Decision in Peoria Medical Malpractice Case

According to reports, the medical malpractice case was filed in response to the death a 64-year-old Peoria resident who underwent a laser extraction to remove a pacemaker and died during surgery. An investigation revealed the man died when his heart and blood vessels were perforated by the laser.

The Peoria County jury returned with an unanimous verdict Friday finding OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center guilty. The verdict was returned after only one hour of deliberation.

The family has been awarded $2.5 million for their loss.
