Woman Arrested After Fatal Head-On Crash Outside of Boerne
San Antonio police arrested a 22-year-old woman Monday for an out-of-county warrant related to a fatal head-on collision near Boerne.
Drunk Driving Results in Fatal Boerne Crash
KSAT reports that 22-year-old Kendall Lauren Batchelor was taken into custody Monday night for a charge of intoxication manslaughter from the Boerne car accident.
Authorities say Batchelor was traveling the wrong way on State Highway 46 near Boerne on Thursday night when she collided head-on with an on-coming sedan. The sedan’s driver, 49-year-old David Belter, was killed in the crash.
Batchelor was taken to the hospital where she underwent surgery. She was booked on proxy and is remanded without bound. After recovery, she is scheduled to be transferred to Kendall County.
Texas Leads the Nation in Wrong-Way Crash Deaths
According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, Texas leads the nation in fatal wrong-way collisions.
In data analysis, AAA found that 2,008 people were killed in wrong-way crashes on U.S. highways between 2015 and 2018. This averages to about 500 deaths a year, up 34% from the annual average of 375 from 2010 through 2014.
Texas had the most head-on crash deaths, reporting an average of 77 fatalities per year from 2015 through 2018. This was a 29% increase from the 2010-2014 average of 60 deaths per year.
Wrong-way driving was most common among drunk drivers, older drivers, and drivers without passengers.
