James (Jim) Rich

Attorney at Thomas J. Henry Law’s Austin Office

Attorney Manager Mr. James (Jim) Rich began his law practice in Oregon.  He started working in Texas in 2023.  He has advocated on behalf of plaintiffs, defendants, children, adults, Fortune 500 companies, and small businesses in hundreds of matters and in tribunals ranging from non-binding arbitrations to appellate courts of last resort.  Mr. Rich has also served as an arbitrator in dozens of cases.

From helping to measure light and sound on lonely, rural highways, to crawling under greasy tractor-trailers, to trying cases to juries, to dueling over archaic points of law with appellate judges; there is little Mr. Rich has not seen or done when it comes to personal injury and liability insurance claims and litigation.  For example, during his first jury trial, Mr. Rich had no client in attendance while his opponent had no attorney in attendance.  Mr. Rich’s absent client prevailed.

After graduating with distinction from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1993, Mr. Rich earned his Juris Doctor in Salem, Oregon from Willamette University College of Law in 1997. While at Willamette, Mr. Rich also earned a Certificate in Dispute Resolution and was an Associate Editor of the Willamette Law Review. He was admitted to the Oregon State Bar in 1997, and to the United States District Court, District of Oregon in 2002. Mr. Rich has authored articles and given presentations providing practice tips and commentary on law and procedure.

Reviews by Mr. Rich’s peers have earned him Martindale-Hubbell’s AV rating – signifying preeminent legal ability and the highest ethical standards.  Mr. Rich is a member of the Oregon State Bar.

Mr. Rich has successfully represented hundreds of injury victims and has secured millions of dollars in compensation for them including making several multi-million-dollar recoveries.  Mr. Rich has successfully convinced reluctant insurance companies to provide coverage and to pay benefits to their paying customers.  In addition to his trial court and appellate work, his counseling of clients and mentoring of less experienced attorneys has provided Mr. Rich with consistent professional satisfaction.

Mr. Rich is a proud son, husband, and father.  He is a board member of a non-profit foundation pursuing funding and research for the treatment of rare diseases — Haley’s Heroes.  He enjoys swimming, boating, wake surfing, snow skiing, hunting, cooking, eating, and traveling.
