3 Dead In Lamesa Crash
Two Texas Department of Criminal Justice correction officers and a teenage girl are dead following a head-on collision near Lamesa, Texas around 6 am Monday.
About the Fatal Head-On Collision
NewsWest 9 reports correctional officers Akinjobi Akinpelu, 36, and Olusegun Sangowale, 34, and 19-year-old Alexis Ayala were all killed Monday after two vehicles collided on Highway 349.
A third correctional officer, 51-year-old Akinola Fasae, was injured in the crash. He was airlifted to Medical Center Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities are still working to determine the cause of the fatal accident.

- 55.76% of the fatalities occurred in rural areas, and 523 deaths were associated with head-on collisions.
- Another 89,270 people were seriously injured in auto accidents.
- According to TxDOT, one person was killed every 2 hours and 36 minutes and one person was injured every 2 minutes and 16 seconds.
