Motorcyclist Killed by Drunk Driver

Jonathan Hernandez4 years ago

A drunk driver and a motorcyclist collided in an accident over the weekend that killed one person.

Details about the Fatal Motorcycle Accident

WFAA News is reporting one person was killed in a motorcycle accident that took place over the weekend. 53-year-old David West was killed in the accident involving an alleged drunk driver.

The victim was out for a ride on Sunday afternoon when 36-year-old LaDonna Welch drove her truck south into the northbound lanes of FM4 in Granbury and hit West in a head-on collision.

A trooper from the Department of Public Safety said that Welch was intoxicated and texting on her cell phone at the time of the accident. West’s wife, Fran, happened to be riding her own motorcycle behind West and witnessed the whole accident. Fran was able to drive her bike into a ditch to avoid the accident.

Fran somehow had the presence of mind to take photos of everything that happened to document the accident as police were on their way to the scene of the wreck. Fran took photos of beer cans and says she saw the driver throw a beer can out the window.

Police have confirmed that they did find beer at the scene of the accident, and they charged Welch with intoxication manslaughter.
