License Suspended at Minnesota Day Care Where Infant Died
On November 12, a report was filed with Crow Wing County Social Services regarding “serious injuries” sustained by an infant under the care of “Country Bumpkin Daycare” in Erhard, Minnesota.
Summary of the Day Care Complaint and Resulting Suspension
According to the Brainerd Dispatch, in response to the report, social services said, “Based on these findings, DHS cannot ensure the health and safety of the children served by your program at this time. DHS has determined that the health, safety, and rights of children in your care are in imminent risk of harm.
Therefore, DHS is suspending your license to provide family child care.”
The victim is identified as 9 month old Zander Kenneth Miller, son of Ande and Allan Miller. Zander was found unresponsive in his crib on the 12th. Emergency responders and deputies responding to the call used life saving measures on the infant before transferring him to Essentia Health- St. Joseph’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. As of now, cause of death is still being investigated.
Country Bumpkin Daycare’s License holder, Mindy A Koering, was previously licensed with a capacity of 10 children, no more than 8 under school age, and no more than 3 out of those eight children could be infants and toddlers, with only two infants permitted at any time. The Daycare’s history shows one violation, water which was too hot in the proximity of children, and was rectified by Koering. Koering has the right to appeal this suspension after it has been in effect for 5 calendar days.
