Inmate, Three Guards Injured in Prison Van Crash Involving Suspected Drunk Driver

Authorities are investigating a crash between a prison van and a suspected drunk driver that occurred in Montgomery County early Tuesday morning.

Details of the Montgomery County Prison Van Crash

ABC 13 reports the crash happened around 2:30 am near the intersection of Interstate 45 and FM-1097, just outside Willis, Texas.

The driver of a red truck was traveling in the northbound lanes of I-45 when they lost control and spun out. The truck came to a stop in the middle of the freeway where it was struck by a Texas Department of Criminal Justice van.

Conroe police responded to the scene. They believe the driver of the pickup was intoxicated at the time of the crash and was at fault for the collision.

One inmate was inside the TDCJ van when the crash happened. The inmate was taken to Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands where they are listed in stable condition.

A correctional officer was also taken to Memorial Hermann, and another officer and a sergeant were taken to HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe.

All are expected to recover.

Common Texas Car Accident Injuries

Car accidents can result in a variety of injuries. Some are immediately noticeable, and with others, the victim may not experience full symptoms for hours, days, or even weeks after a collision.

Because of this, Thomas J. Henry Law suggests all car accident victims speak to their medical provider after a crash, even if they do not feel immediate pain. Diagnosing an injury early can help reduce the risks of long-term pain and complications.

Among the most common injuries we see in Texas car accident cases are:

  • Scrapes and cuts
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Broken bones and fractures
  • Soft-tissue injuries
  • Back and spinal injuries
  • Neck injuries
  • Whiplash
