A motorcyclist was killed in an accident in Merritt Island, Florida.

Details about the Fatal Motorcycle Accident

Florida Today is reporting that the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that happened that involved a motorcycle and an SUV near Duval Street and North Courtenay Parkway on Merritt Island on Tuesday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 51-year-old Richard Moore was the driver of the motorcycle who was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident that happened at about 4:40 p.m. Moore was killed after being hit by the SUV, being driven by 72-year-old Maureen Tavaglione of Merritt Island.

The SUV traveled into his path while he was attempting to make a left turn into the parking lot of a business. Moore was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Both of the vehicles involved in the accident were heading north at the time, and one of the passengers in the SUV was taken to the Cape Canaveral Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Charges are still pending, and troopers are continuing to investigate the accident.
