One Killed in San Antonio 18-Wheeler Crash

One person is dead as a result of an 18-wheeler crash in South Bexar County.

Details of the Fatal San Antonio 18-Wheeler Crash

According to KSAT, the fatal crash occurred around 5:15 am Wednesday in the 20000 block of State Highway 16 South, between Loop 1604 and Smith Road.

Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said a Nissan Rogue was traveling southbound on the highway when an 18-wheeler pulled out in front of it. The Nissan went under the 18-wheeler and became lodged.

The driver of the Rogue was declared dead at the scene. The age and identity of the driver was not released.

It is unclear if the driver of the 18-wheeler sustained any injuries

Lanes of the highway were closed as crews responded to the scene. All lanes have since been opened.

The crash remains under investigation.

Of those killed, 71 percent were occupants of passenger vehicles, 18 percent were occupants of large trucks and 18-wheelers, 11 percent were pedestrians and bicyclists.

More than three-quarters of fatal 19-wheeler accidents occurred on weekdays.

Texas led the country in trucking accident deaths with 664 fatalities recorded. Texas was followed by California with 352 deaths and Florida with 321 deaths.

Another 151,000 people were injured in 18-wheeler and truck accidents in 2018.
