Land Rover Recalls SUVs Due to Transmission Issue
Land Rover is issuing a recall on 22,657 SUVs due to a transmission sensor malfunction that could cause vehicles to shift into neutral, increasing the risk of a crash.
About the Land Rover SUV Recall
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recalled vehicles contain transmission sensor clusters that may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, which can cause the transmission to shift into neutral unexpectedly.
Land Rover says owners can receive an inspection and software update that will prevent the transmission from shifting into neutral unexpectedly, free of charge, from their local dealer.
The recall is expected to begin on October 14, 2016.
Description of the Recalled Land Rover SUVs
The recall includes the following SUV models:
- 2015 Discovery Sport
- Manufactured between September 17, 2014 through November 3, 2014
- 2014 – 2015 Range Rover Evoque
- Manufactured between July 15, 2013 through July 1, 2015
According to CarComplaints.com, ZF North America, the company behind the faulty transmission wiring harnesses, recalled more than 500,000 transmission sensors in various vehicles across several automakers in August. The same company’s gear shifters caused Chrysler to recall 1.1 million vehicles due to vehicles rolling away after the owner thought the car was in park
There were 68 injuries and 266 crashes reportedly linked to the recalled Chrysler vehicles.
