Two Dead, Dozens Displaced after Machine Shop Explosion in Houston Neighborhood
At least two people are dead, and numerous people have had to leave their homes, after an massive explosion ripped through a Houston neighborhood Friday morning.
Details of the Houston Machine Shop Explosion
According to Reuters, the explosion occurred around 4:25 am sending shock waves that could be felt as far as 14 miles away.
Aerial footage of the building where the explosion originated, the Watson Grinding and Manufacturing building, showed nothing remained other than collapsed, smoldering wreckage. A home security camera captured the exact moment of the explosion, catching a blinding flash followed by a bright fireball in the distance.
Police have confirmed two fatalities associated with the explosion, but details on the identities of the two people killed were not immediately available.
Officials announced they will conduct an arson investigation, but did stress that there is currently no evidence of foul play. Instead, early indications suggest a leak of some kind at the manufacturing sight that mostly handles propylene gas.
Firefighters examined almost 200 homes, many of which were reported to be damaged.
